The Lake Anna Eagle Eye Vision

When my wife and I bought our Lake Anna house while still in Houston, we did so sight unseen. To say it was a fixer-upper is an understatement: it was uninhabitable! We wanted it fixed up before we moved, so we set up a plan. We were lucky. My parents lived just down the street and my father is a retired real estate agent, specializing in LKA. My dad coordinated all the repairs and met with all the contractors. He was here to open the house, inspect the work, and continually followed up with all involved parties. It was quite a workload meeting with all those service providers to fix the well, plumbing, HVAC, flooring, etc. He even met with the delivery drivers. He did all of the work, and I just wrote the check. It got me thinking, how would I have ever done it without someone I trust on site? It would have been a nightmare without help. I’d be writing checks without ever knowing if the work was to my satisfaction. I would be traveling back and forth missing tons of work. It would be beyond frustrating.

The idea of Eagle Eye was born.

I know many second home owners who come to Lake Anna for a much-needed getaway, only to find themselves bogged down in repairs and maintenance. We're lucky enough to have a family lake house on Lake Anna as well, and my whole family gets together every summer. As a local who does arrival prep and departure cleanup for my own family, I know all about the hassle managing a busy weekend. You have to fuel up your water toys, get the floats from the garage and repair any holes, uncover and clean the boats, mow the grass, and more. And then when the fun is over and the guests are gone, you have a half a day's work of putting everything away again. When you're from out of town, that is precious fun time that you could get back.

Don't arrive to a disaster.

We have firsthand experience with how valuable a second pair of eyes can be in the event of an emergency. A few years ago, before we moved back to LKA, and just before our annual family vacation, we had a huge problem with the house. A water supply line to a toilet in a basement bathroom had failed, and water had been pumping into the basement for days, perhaps even weeks. It was a scramble to get all of the water cleaned up and gut the bottom half of the basement before all of the family arrived. Final repairs had to be made, including replacing all the drywall and flooring. There is a lesson in this story: it could have been prevented if there was a scheduled inspection. Time is critical with these types of issues. If you own a vacation lake house, it needs to be inspected thoroughly on a schedule. Not by a passing neighbor, but by someone who cares about your house as much as you do.
